In order to contribute to the strengthening and training of human talent in the health area and to strengthen academic cooperation ties, the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) signed inter-institutional agreements with several universities in the country so that more than 650 postgraduates can join their medical units nationwide.
The event took place this Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Aula Magna of the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES), with the presence of Guillermo Lasso, President of the Republic; Alfredo Borrero, Vice President of the Republic; Alfredo Ortega, President of the Board of Directors of IESS. In addition, Diego Salgado, General Director of IESS; Francisco Mora, Director of Health Insurance, several government, institutional and academic authorities.
The higher education institutions that are part of these inter-institutional agreements are: Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES), Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil, Universidad de Guayaquil, Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Indoamérica, Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA), Universidad Internacional del Ecuador, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial (UTE), Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Universidad de Cuenca, Universidad del Azuay and Universidad Nacional de Loja.
This is a mutual benefit since the students of the different postgraduate programs in the health area will broaden their academic training and the IESS will be strengthened by having a new professional contingent that will improve the operation of the medical units at the service of the insured.
During his speech, Alfredo Ortega, president of the IESS Board of Directors, pointed out that as of the signing of these agreements with the universities, 658 postgraduates will join the institution.
He invited the students and physicians to work in full harmony, adding their experience and youth to the authentic service of their fellow man. «May the Hippocratic spirit of the true physician prevail in you.».
In his speech, the President of the Republic highlighted that these are the alliances that the country really needs. «If we reached agreements and consensus thinking about Ecuador with love and good will as we have done now, we would have a more developed, prosperous and productive country».
