Amid the dim lights of a stage, students from the UEES School of Arts performed the delicate melody that earned them 3rd place in the national contest “Looking for new composers of Pasillo”, organized by the Municipality of Guayaquil, the Directorate of Culture and the Municipal Museum of Popular Music “Julio Jaramillo”.

This contest presented its second edition dedicated to young composers, with the aim of encouraging, promoting and disseminating the creation of new compositions of Ecuadorian music in the “pasillo” genre, cultural and intangible heritage of Ecuador.

The award was granted to the song “Tu Ausencia”, composed (lyrics and music) by Cosme Chalén, produced by David Cedeño and performed by Eva Briones.

“This corridor is not only about saying, but also about evoking those feelings that a person feels when missing another person, it is simple but at the same time it communicates a lot,” says Cosme.

The students dedicated many hours of effort to the creation of the musical piece, which stood out among the best for its melodic beauty and quality of the lyrics, all under the direction of Ms. Martha Rizzo, Director of the School of Arts.

On the other hand, the corridor “Tu voz”, by Ana Tamayo, from Quito, won first place, while second place went to Andrés Tufiño Robalino, from Riobamba, with the corridor “Corazón pendiente”.
