More About The Program

Where is the program located?

The program is based at the Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Possibly the most diverse and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countries in the world, Ecuador offers unspoiled coastline, snow-capped mountains, indigenous cultures, colonial architecture, and the planet’s two greatest natural wonders: The Amazon rainforest and the Galapagos Islands.
The Universidad Espiritu Santo – located in the district of Samborondón – is ranked as one of the country’s top universities. UEES’ modern campus has a sports complex and pool, private buses, cafeterias and much more!

Homestay Experience

All of our families are vetted, regularly supervised, and live in the area close to the university campus. They provide a private bedroom, 3 meals a day, and laundry. But more importantly, they provide an opportunity to improve your Spanish skills, learn about Ecuadorian culture, and have a home away from home.

Service Opportunities

Students can choose to be placed in a variety of community organizations that work at addressing the pressing social needs in Guayaquil, such as health, nutrition, education, shelter and housing, and environmental protection, or working with the physically and mentally disabled, street children, and other marginalized members of society. Students are placed according to their skill sets and Spanish language level.

Coastal Community Field Trip

3 days of travel beginning in Guayaquil and heading to the coast of Ecuador visiting several communities that are important to the development of the country. Workshops included: Paja Toquilla and Tagua.

Cacao Experience Field Trip

A full day trip to Churute: a chance to experience the coastal ecology of Ecuador and to learn more about the cacao/chocolate process.
