66 % of companies face difficulties when trying to carry out significant digital changes. Even so, every day new pressures emerge to initiate digital transformation processes.
With the aim of providing key information that helps organizations to be in the third that is successful in its transformation process, the Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES) and its Research Center (CIN) together with the consulting firms GeneXus Consulting and Xternum, joined forces to carry out a research, which resulted in the First Report on Competitiveness for Digital Transformation in Ecuador.
The study analyzes the dimensions that have shown the greatest impact on the success or failure of digital transformation processes, offering companies and organizations a comparative overview in order to understand how prepared they are to tackle such a process.
The preparation of the report consisted of several stages of data collection, validation and analysis. The results are based on validated data from 391 Ecuadorian executives.
«We found a profile of organizations, which we call digital leaders, that exhibit a success rate of up to 150% more than the lagging profile. It's an indication of the differences in return on investment in digital technologies, and it also shows us how leaders are moving further and further away from their followers, systematically widening the digital gaps. Knowing where each organization is in relation to its competitors is an invaluable resource to focus efforts on what matters most,» said Luis Silva Domingo, Founder and CEO of XTERNUM Consulting.
The Director of the Graduate School of Business at Espiritu Santo University, César Espinosa, commented: «This study reveals the importance of applied research to identify gaps and opportunities. In this case, knowing the opportunities and threats that exist between digital capabilities versus skills are key for both the industrial sector and academia to prioritize actions to be taken in the short, medium and long term. Not to do so is to put the nation's competitiveness at risk.»
Finally, Álvaro Cristiani, Professor and Researcher at UEES and Director of XTERNUM Consulting concluded: «Paradoxically, what the study shows us is that unlike what one might think, digital transformation and its success has much more to do with the development and transformation of people than with technology».
The study is part of Digital Leaders Latam, an initiative that aims to provide key information to help organizations achieve success in their digital transformation processes.
The Ecuador chapter has the support of the main business organizations of this country: Alianza para el Emprendimiento y la Innovación, Consejo Empresarial Ecuatoriano Uruguayo, Cámara de Innovación y Tecnología Ecuatoriana, Cámara Ecuatoriana de Comercio Electrónico, Asociación de Jóvenes Empresarios de Ecuador, among others.
