The Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo (UEES) has joined the initiative for the World No Tobacco Day through the forum “Breathe Free” carried out by the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences, in order to make students and the UEES community aware of the risks involved in ‘vapear’.
The forum was attended by panelists from various health institutions: the Neuroscience Institute, the Kennedy Clinic, the Omnihospital and the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), who discussed the effects, risks and consequences of vaping on physical and mental health. The forum also counted with the testimony of the student, Alejandra Santana, who related her experience with vaping, from how she got involved in this problem to her difficult experience to get out of it.
The panelists highlighted the importance of the role of the family in the prevention of vape consumption. Dr. Jorge Bucaram, National Director of Professional Strengthening and Health Career of the Ministry of Public Health said ‘1 in 10 people currently use tobacco, according to INEC data there are more than 500,000 consumers and 13 % of students between 13 and 15 years have ever used tobacco in their lives’. These figures demonstrate the relevance of this event where you have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field.
This event highlighted UEES's commitment to education and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, aligning with the WHO's global goals for a tobacco-free world, contributing to the fight against smoking and the use of electronic cigarettes.
