The lawyer María Alejandra Muñoz Seminar graduated from Espiritu Santo University as a Lawyer of the Courts and Tribunals of the Republic, with a specialization in Business and Tax Law, along with Cum Laude academic recognition.
In the vote Muñoz obtained 75 affirmative votes, 22 negative votes, zero blank votes and 38 abstentions. Ecuador's National Assembly elected María Alejandra Muñoz as the country's new vice-president until May 2021, replacing Otto Sonnenholzner.
After learning of her appointment, President Moreno, through his official Twitter account, congratulated her. Muñoz was part of the shortlist proposed by President Moreno, which also included the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo and the Secretary General of the Presidency, Juan Sebastián Roldán.
«With the joy of being in my second home (the church) I receive this community with the certainty of counting on your prayers, the Lord sent us two by two and I also need you. May God bless Ecuador».
The new vice president was advisor to the Legal Undersecretary of the Presidency of Ecuador in 2002; general undersecretary of Government, in 2006 and undersecretary of Presidential Agenda from March to September 2018, when she was appointed by Moreno as director of the National Customs Service.
In addition, in a solemn ceremony for its 25-year anniversary, UEES awarded it with the recognition as “UEES Footprint 2019” for his professional achievements.
