The Universidad Espiritu Santo, for the first time, held the Recycleathon 2025, an initiative promoted by the AD HOC Sustainability Committee, made up of deans, the Academic Vice Rector's Office and Student Welfare, in strategic alliance with Recycle LATAM. This institutional collaboration was able to collect 6.3 tons of recyclable material, exceeding expectations and setting a historic record for both the university and its partner Recicla LATAM. This figure represented an unprecedented milestone, as it was the first time that the partner organization collected this amount of material in a single event. The event had the active participation of the entire university community, including students, faculty and administrative staff, demonstrating a collective commitment to environmental sustainability and reflecting the consolidation of an institutional culture oriented towards ecological responsibility.
The Reciclatón was created with the intention of generating environmental awareness and promoting a recycling culture that transcends the event itself and endures in the daily habits of the university community. During the day, Recicla LATAM gave educational talks on sustainability, sharing key knowledge about recycling practices and environmental conservation. In addition, the event featured interactive sustainable stands where UEES students and alumni presented their business projects focused on circular economy and eco-innovation, creating a space for experiential learning and green entrepreneurship.
María Fernanda Rumbea, CEO of Recicla LATAM, The company's CEO, Mr. Mora, highlighted the magnitude of the achievement reached through this alliance: «What we have experienced today has been unprecedented. We had the goal of recovering three tons of recycled material and we reached 6.3 tons, more than 6,000 kilos in favor of grassroots recyclers. Today we made history, not only supporting those who make a living from this work, but also contributing to the conservation of our ecosystems».
Isidro Fierro, Rector of UEES, celebrated this collective achievement by stating: «Today we are making a milestone and making history. With the effort of students, professors, collaborators and allies we achieved a record of 6 tons of recycled material, supporting the community and demonstrating that when we have a clear purpose everything is possible. From gram to gram and from ton to ton we can build a better country».
This first Reciclatón not only represents a success in quantitative terms, but also marks the beginning of an institutional tradition aimed at educating environmentally responsible citizens. The collaboration with Recicla LATAM demonstrates that strategic alliances between educational institutions and organizations specialized in sustainability can generate significant impacts, actively contributing to environmental conservation and the development of a circular economy that benefits both the community and grassroots recyclers.
