Transformation at the June 26 School: a space to grow, play and learn.

UEES - Espiritu Santo University > Architecture > Transformation at the June 26 School: a space to grow, play and learn.

In December 2024, the integral architectural intervention of the recreational spaces at the 26 de junio School, located in the Buijo Histórico, was successfully completed. This project, carried out by students from the School of Architecture and Design, aimed to improve the quality of the spaces intended for play and recreation, promoting an inclusive and healthy environment for children. The intervention was designed under a participatory approach, in which students, teachers and members of the community actively participated in the process.

The transformation of the playground and dining area was key to fostering social interaction and learning through play. The architecture of the space not only improved its functionality, but also generated greater interaction among its users. The murals, whose design came from the school children, added educational and aesthetic value, contributing to an environment that reflects the community's identity and enhances the students' sense of belonging.

This project promotes the creation of sustainable communities. In addition to improving infrastructure, the intervention allowed UEES students to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom, becoming directly involved in the design and execution of the project. Through this experience, students developed practical skills and learned to solve problems in architectural intervention projects in real environments.

The transformation of the recreational spaces had a positive impact on both the school community and the UEES students. The creation of a more attractive and functional space favors not only the physical and cognitive development of the students, but also the social cohesion within the school community.
