The Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) was the scene of an emotional academic and literary meeting on the occasion of the launch of the book “Walker... yes there is a way”.”, a work by the prominent teacher, philosopher and journalist David Samaniego Torres, The founding vice-chancellor of the institution.

The event brought together authorities, teachers, students and friends of the author, who paid tribute to his career and his invaluable contribution to education and humanistic thought in the country.

The ceremony was opened by Carlos Ortega Maldonado, Chancellor of UEES, Joaquin Hernandez, philosopher and rector of the ECOTEC University, offered a profound reflection on the work, pointing out that “Walker... yes there is a way”.” is a testimony of life that combines thought, experience and pedagogical lucidity.

In his speech, the author shared with the audience the motivations behind his book, in which he invites us to rediscover the value of teaching, the word and the road traveled throughout a life dedicated to educating, writing and thinking.

«This is a compendium of texts published at different times in the newspaper El Mercurio of the city of Cuenca. Today those writings are gathered to cement the principles and experiences of its author. And also to perpetuate the avatars and urgencies of our Ecuador. Spreading the thought and written word when the artificial intelligence analyzing the word threatens to take away this human prerogative is a laudable and timely decision,» said the educator.

Born in Sígsig Born in 1935, Dr. Samaniego has dedicated more than six decades to teaching and critical thinking. He has served as rector and principal in renowned educational institutions in the country, and was founding vice-rector of Espiritu Santo University. In addition, he has been a columnist for national and international media, such as El Comercio, Overview, The Universe, The Mercury of Cuenca y El Norte de Castilla.

The event concluded with the presentation of copies of the book to the attendees and a toast of honor, in which colleagues, former students and family members shared words of admiration for an educator who has left a deep mark on the intellectual history of Ecuador.
