The Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) was one of the institutions participating in an unprecedented virtual encounter with the President of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky, President of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelenski. The activity brought together students and academics from five Ecuadorian universities: Universidad San Francisco de Quito, ESPOL, Universidad Casa Grande, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar and UEES.
The event was coordinated by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Peru, concurrent to Colombia and Ecuador, with the purpose of offering a space for dialogue on the current situation in Ukraine and its impact on the international context.
During his speech, President Zelenski shared his vision of the challenges facing his country in the midst of the conflict with Russia, as well as the opportunities for cooperation with Latin America. He stressed the importance of building global alliances and strengthening international support for democratic values.
The session included a question and answer session with the participation of students from the convened universities. On behalf of UEES, Luciana Terán asked a question about the role that other countries should assume in the Ukrainian situation, and inquired about what will happen after the meeting held with Donald Trump at the Vatican. In response, President Zelenski indicated that the current relations with the United States are on good terms and expressed his wish that they continue to be so.
The event not only provided first-hand insight into the perspective of a world leader at a critical time for his country, but also strengthened the students' engagement with the analysis of international affairs.
