Our Chancellor, Carlos Ortega, is appointed Honorary Consul General of Japan.

UEES - Espiritu Santo University > News > Our Chancellor, Carlos Ortega, is appointed Honorary Consul General of Japan.

Carlos Ortega Maldonado, UEES chancellor, was appointed on Tuesday, December 14, by the Embassy of Japan as honorary consul general in Guayaquil.

The ambassador Keiichiro Morishita appointed Ortega as collaborator of the diplomatic mission until 2026. He will be a link between Guayaquil and the Japanese government, not functioning as a consulate but as a close collaborator who will work in favor of the growth of relations between the two countries.

Last November, Japan had decided to appoint Ortega Maldonado to the post, which was vacant after the death in 2020 of Jaime Simon, due to his trajectory in the educational area of the country and his constant interest in issues related to Japan. Simon was honorary consul for more than 25 years.
