Creativity and Ecuadorian flavor, main ingredients in the intercollegiate contest “Saber y Sabor”, organized by the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management UEES.
Various institutions of the city of Guayaquil such as Crear Educational Unit, Ecomundo, Colegio Americano, Monte Tabor Nazareth Educational Unit, Jefferson Bilingual Educational Unit and Liceo Panamericano participated in the gastronomic event that began on Friday, September 28 and concluded with the final on October 16, 2018 at the Restaurant of the School of Gastronomy.
The Crear, Monte Tabor Nazareth and Jefferson Educational Units competed in the final stage with the preparation of a shrimp-based dish. The judges Natalie Areco (Chef specialist in chocolate), Xavier Castillo (Dean of the Faculty of Tourism) and Ghada Juez (Chef Instructor of Arabic and Vegetarian Gastronomy) and Marlena Leon (Academic Vice Rector) graded the participants on taste, technique, presentation and mastery of the theme.
After a long debate, the first place winners were the students Alessia Scippa (15 years old) and Hugo Castro Sánchez (15 years old) from “Unidad Educativa Crear”, who prepared “Breaded shrimp with casserole sauce, pico de gallo and rice”. Both agreed that their passion for the culinary art began since childhood, thanks to the advice of their grandparents who prepared typical food of our country. In addition, for them the secret of their triumph was their constant training in books and a lot of practice; without leaving aside, the touch of their “cazuela sauce”. As an additional surprise, César Vélez (Academic Director of the Tourism Career) awarded first place a free 100% language course of their choice.
