K-Polo Art, is the name of the team formed by 5 students from Espiritu Santo University that managed to place among the 5 finalists in the grand finale of the international Hackathon ActInSpace in its 2022 edition.

ActInSpace is an international innovation competition driven by the French Space Agency that has been bringing together students, entrepreneurs, professionals and creatives from 5 continents for more than 5 years to imagine and design innovative products and services for everyday use in space. In addition, this international event provides a platform for students to showcase their talents, develop new skills and contribute to the development of innovative products and services. The event is an excellent opportunity for students to gain international exposure, network with peers and professionals from different areas of knowledge and work on projects that have the potential to positively impact society.

 This 2022 edition started with the local eliminatory rounds in November 2022, which took place in Guayaquil at the campus of the Universidad Espíritu Santo, where 6 teams worked for 24 hours on their proposals and then presented them to a jury made up of experts in the areas of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. Be green, the app designed by the K-Polo Art team, with a value proposition based on promoting environmental conservation using playful and gamified mechanisms, won first place in the qualifying rounds and with this the opportunity to participate in the grand finale presenting their idea along with 15 other teams from all over the world, in the city of Cannes, France, as the venue for the event.

In front of a prestigious jury, the grand final took place on February 14, 2023 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, where after a round of exhibitions, the UEES K-Polo Art team was announced among the 5 finalists alongside teams from Azerbaijan, Latvia, Italy and Slovakia. One of the strengths of the K-Polo Art team was based on the multidisciplinary characteristic of its members, our students from the Computer Engineering and Architecture careers did an outstanding job combining their expertise and skills in favor of their innovative idea.

 

Espiritu Santo University promotes the organization and participation of events that foster the creative spirit of our students, considering that the multidisciplinary component is the cornerstone for the development of the great ideas of the future and constitutes a differentiating factor that has the ability to enhance the personal and professional skills of students, as they acquire skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
