Local action against climate change; cooperation between the world's municipalities», was the lecture given by Dr. Pedro Ballesteros Torres, Principal Administrator of the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy.
The event, organized by the School of Environmental Sciences of UEES, was aimed at environmental actors in municipalities and organizations, as well as students and teachers in the area.
The conference dealt with the qualitative difference of local action, oriented towards citizens and less linked to economic globalization. Local commitments to the climate challenge and how they represent visions for the future of cities were also discussed.
Ballesteros also referred to the European experience with the Covenant of Mayors and what Europe can offer to help Ecuadorian, Latin American and world cities and towns work together, with their own criteria and respect for environmental justice.
