Times Higher Education of London highlights UEES as the best in the country, number 6 in Latin America and the only Ecuadorian university among the thousand best in the world.
Espiritu Santo University was reaffirmed for the second year in a row as the the best university in Ecuador and among the six best in Latin America according to the THE 2026 World University Rankings. In the rigorous ranking carried out by Times Higher Education of London, UEES ranks among the top 1,000 worldwide, at a distance of about 600 places from other Ecuadorian universities and with the highest rating achieved by the country.
From Saudi Arabia, the announcement was made during the official ceremony of Times Higher Education (THE), as part of the World Academic Summit: Universities as agents of progress. “With this recognition UEES is already a brand Ecuador in the world, showing the talent and dedication of Ecuadorians who are committed to academic excellence,” said Carlos Ortega Maldonado, Chancellor of UEES.
Times Higher Education in London is considered one of the world's most important and influential agencies for assessing the quality of higher education. The evaluation criteria include teaching, research environment, research quality, international perspective and industry linkage. This year, the ranking included to 2191 universities globally, among them 12 Ecuadorian women, being UEES the only one in the top 1,000 in the world followed in second place by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and in third place by the Escuela Politécnica Nacional.
In this way, UEES adds an additional achievement to its trajectory and consolidates itself as a global university, due to the fact that during the last years it has climbed vertiginously in the world academic map, positioning itself also as TOP 7 in citations per paper, among others. the top 1,000 in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2026, and to be recognized, for the third consecutive year, as the best in online education in Ibero-America by the European ranking Innovatec.
