Espiritu Santo University through its School of International Studies, starred in the fourth edition of the Model United Nations, “UEES MUN 2018”; this Wednesday, September 25, 2018 at the UEES Convention Center facilities.
UEES MUN was born from the idea of a group of students who needed to understand the decisions of the leaders of each country. The purpose of the event each year is to give students the power to analyze what is right and just, in order to spread that knowledge to future generations, making them “agents of change”.
This year, 8 committees collaborated: “Haut Commissariat Des Nations Unies Pour Les Réfugiés” (France for the first time), committees in English: “General Assembly - Fourth Committee: Special Policy and Decolonization” and “General Assembly - Third Committee: Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs”. In addition, college and university committees such as: Human Rights Council, United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, General Assembly - First Committee: Disarmament and International Security, and Security Council.
Among the most relevant topics of the UEESMUN were: Relations of state policies and poverty with drugs; and Migrants from Venezuela.
In addition, the event was attended by 160 delegates from different institutions, with the support of 30 institutions:
Universidad Casa Grande, Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil, Universidad Ecotec, Escuela Politécnica del Litoral Espol, Universidad Estatal de Guayaquil, Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte, Universidad de Cuenca, Universidad del Azuay, Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Universidad de las Américas, Universidad Central del Ecuador, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, Universidad Nacional de Loja, Unidad Educativa Monte Tabor Nazaret, Colegio Aleman Humbolt de Guayaquil, Colegio Americano de Guayaquil, Unidad Educativa Particular Bilingüe Ecomundo, Unidad Educativa Particular Bilingüe Principito & Marcel Laniado de Wind, Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”, Unidad Educativa Eugenio Espejo Loja, Unidad Educativa Bilingüe Nuevo Mundo, Unidad Educativa Abdón Calderón, Liceo Naval de Quito, Logos Academy, Centro Educativo La Moderna, and Centro Educativo Naciones Unidas.
It is important to highlight that UEES MUN is a nationally recognized event (the only ones at the coastal level) by the “Model United Nations MUN”. And as a future projection, they are in the process of being endorsed by the UN at the coastal level.
