The Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo (UEES) celebrated World Environment Day through the “Sustainable Cities” conversation, in order to raise awareness among students about the importance of sustainability and its role in the future of the planet.
Panelists from various entities participated in the discussion: Holcim, UEES and the Mayor's Office of Samborondón; who discussed the impact of mangrove reforestation projects and the reuse of inorganic waste for construction as key initiatives to achieve sustainability in cities.
The panelists highlighted the importance of sustainable initiatives in various areas and their positive impact on the environment. Juan José Yúnez, Mayor of Samborondón pointed out that “The action that 1 mangrove tree does in reducing the carbon footprint is equivalent to what 4 normal trees do”. This fact not only underscores the need to adopt sustainable practices in various areas, but also demonstrates their significant positive impact on the environment.
This event reflects UEES' commitment to promoting sustainable practices and educating its students on environmental issues, moving towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
