Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) participated in the prestigious QS Higher Ed Summit: Europe 2024, held on July 11-12 in Barcelona, Spain. Carlos Ortega Maldonado, Chancellor of UEES, was part of the panel entitled «The Future Leader's Toolkit: A Business School Lens», moderated by Nunzio Quacquarelli, president of QS Quacquarelli Symonds. The panel discussed the essential competencies that future leaders must develop to meet the challenges of today's work environment.
The panel addressed best practices for integrating soft skills into business education, highlighting the importance of emotional intelligence in learning environments and the training needs of faculty to support such an environment.
“We need our students to understand their responsibilities as professionals to the community, their country and the world. We are training the new leaders of the world and we need to make sure that these leaders are really prepared to make it better. We face many global threats and if we don't start at that particular point, nothing will work and we will destroy the planet,” the Chancellor said.
In addition, he highlighted the use of tools such as artificial intelligence and the need to consider their ethical implications. He also emphasized that the real challenge is not the technology itself, but its misuse. “Our real role in higher education is how we can inspire our students to develop soft skills in a holistic way,” Ortega noted.
The panel also featured Dr. Casilda Güell, Dean of OBS Business School; Jorge Castiñeira Jerez, Dean of Esade Law School; Martin Serrano, COO, Co-Founder and COO of 1Mentor, QS Quacquarelli Symonds; and Prof. Jason Blackstock, Founder and CEO of How to Change the World. Each of the panelists provided valuable perspectives on training leaders of the future, highlighting the need for a holistic approach to business education to prepare students to meet the challenges of the modern world.
UEES' participation in renowned international events such as the QS Higher Ed Summit reflects its commitment to educational excellence and its dedication to developing leaders prepared to make a positive impact on global society.
