Students from the Faculty of Architecture and Design carried out a Pop-Up urban intervention in Panama Street as part of the community outreach project. The main objective of the activity was to reactivate the public space through a participatory methodology, revitalizing Luzárraga and Panamá Streets with recreational, educational and cultural activities aimed at citizens.
During the day, students designed and built purpose-built street furniture for the, which integrated historical and cultural elements of Panama Street, highlighting it as a heritage landmark of downtown Guayaquil. Through gamification activities and dialogue with the community, they shared their urban proposals and promoted reflection on the care of the environment, pedestrian mobility and urban memory.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Guayaquil during the Center Route which pedestrianizes Calle Panamá and Malecón on Sundays, and had the valuable support of the National Police and the private company ReyBosques. In addition, there were cultural activities such as a puppet show, the Rincón del Recuerdo, a dynamic labyrinth, environmental art and educational spaces.
This experience allowed students to apply knowledge acquired in the classroom in a real context, strengthening their commitment to the sustainable and participatory development of the city. UEES thus reaffirms its active role in the transformation of the urban habitat and in the training of professionals committed to their environment.
