The Law School of the Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile, was the venue of the First Latin American Conference on Law and Technology, event, organized by a consortium of Latin American universities of which the Espiritu Santo University (UEES) is part of it. The central theme of this academic meeting was the artificial intelligence and fundamental rights, specifically addressing the data protection and information security.
The event, which took place on September 3 and 4, The event was attended by leading national and international experts. UEES was represented by Maríangel Torres, Academic Coordinator of the Graduate School of Law; Herlinda Pincay, students of the School of Law; and Pablo Alarcón, Director of the Graduate School of Law, who was also part of the Academic Organizing Committee.
During the conference, the following topics were discussed legal and ethical challenges on the regulation of artificial intelligence, addressing issues such as the opacity of the systems and the civil liability technology. The meeting allowed for the analysis of critical aspects that will be decisive for the future of law and technology in the region.
“These types of meetings are vital for the region to move forward together in the regulation and understanding of artificial intelligence. We must anticipate the challenges that this technology imposes on us, and in that sense, these conferences are a crucial step to guarantee the protection of fundamental rights in the digital era,” said Alarcón.
In addition, an important announcement was made: UEES will host the second edition of this event, scheduled for the year 2025, The company's internationalization process and its commitment to the forefront of education and technology have strengthened its internationalization process.
