Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) participated in the Sustainable Dialogue organized in conjunction with SAMBITO, an ecosystem of companies dedicated to addressing sustainability through science and technology. During the meeting, the outlook for sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the region was analyzed.
May López from the EAE Business School in Spain, via videoconference, presented the results of the III Sustainability Observatory in Ibero-America, The report was prepared by EAE Business School, the Ibero-American Business Council (CEIB) and the Ibero-American Federation of Young Entrepreneurs (FIJE).
The panel was attended by prominent speakers, including Juan José Yúnez, Mayor of Samborondón; Blanca E. Gallegos, Francisco Alemán, Daniela Álvarez and Isabel Tamariz, as moderator.
Francisco Alemán, dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship, Business and Economics at UEES, highlighted the role of academia in promoting a culture of sustainability: «From academia, we create culture, commitment and new ideas to contribute with professionals prepared for today's challenges».
Main findings of the III Sustainability Observatory in Ibero-America:
- More about 80 % of organizations believe that having a specific CSR area strengthens them to face future challenges.
- The 63,3 % of Latin American companies and institutions already have an area dedicated to CSR, consolidating it as an integral part of the organizational structure.
- The aublic-private partnerships are seen as essential for advancing sustainability in the Ibero-American region, which is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
- To maximize the impact of CSR, a greater financial commitment from companies is needed.
This sustainable dialogue represents a joint effort between SAMBITO and UEES to foster greater awareness and action around sustainability, encouraging organizations to take a more active role in environmental protection and sustainable development in Ecuador and the region.
