On December 17, 2024, the revitalization of the catechesis room in the San Miguel Febres Cordero parish, located in Buijo Histórico in the Samborondón canton, was completed. This project, designed by students from the School of Architecture and Design, sought to improve the teaching environment for children, youth and adults who actively participate in catechesis classes. The renovation of this interior space responded to the need to offer a comfortable and adequate environment for learning, where elements such as lighting, acoustics, furniture and colors favored a better educational experience.
The intervention focused on creating a didactic and functional space that would reflect the community's identity and Christian faith through the interior design. The students applied their skills in participatory design, working hand in hand with the community to ensure that the space met their needs and expectations. The room, designed to accommodate up to 70 people simultaneously, was transformed so that attendees could enjoy an environment conducive to teaching, fostering motivation and interest in catechetical classes.
The renovation of the teaching room not only improved the quality of the space, but also provided students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical way. In addition, teachers played a key role in guiding the intervention process, promoting collaboration between students and the community.
The impact of this intervention was significant for all involved. For the community, the renovation of the space generated a greater sense of belonging and facilitated learning in a more suitable environment. The students, for their part, gained experience in the design of educational spaces, while the teachers were able to strengthen the links between design education and the real needs of the community. This project represents an example of how interior architecture can transform spaces to improve the quality of life and learning.
