The Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) establishes a historic milestone in Ecuadorian science with the inauguration of the first aerobiology station in the country. This revolutionary project, dedicated to the collection and analysis of pollens and fungal spores in the environment, responds to a crucial public health need: to improve treatments for respiratory diseases and allergies, which affect more than 15 % of the world's population and 30 % of young people.
This pioneering station marks a before and after in allergy management in Ecuador. Not only will it facilitate diagnosis and optimize prophylactic treatments, but it will also allow pollen-sensitive individuals to plan trips with confidence, knowing the seasons and areas of highest allergen concentration. It will also provide a deeper understanding of how allergies vary between regions and seasons, becoming an essential resource to significantly improve the quality of life of those suffering from these conditions.
With this progress, UEES reaffirms its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3), strengthening respiratory health in Ecuador and leading scientific knowledge in palynology. The university projects itself as a reference in research on allergies and respiratory diseases, with a tangible impact on the community and a growing presence in the international scientific arena through publications and participation in congresses.
