The Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) had an outstanding participation in the seventh edition of the Global Urticaria Forum, organized by the Global Allergy and Asthma Excellence Network (GA²LEN) in Berlin, Germany. During the event, Dr. Ivan Cherrez, UEES research professor and renowned Ecuadorian allergist, presented a checklist for a complete medical history in patients with chronic urticaria, an important advance in the diagnosis and management of this condition.
GA²LEN, a consortium of leading research centers in allergic diseases, such as asthma, is funded by the European Union. This consortium is dedicated to addressing the growing public health concern related to allergic diseases. GA²LEN's UCARE program, which promotes research and knowledge on urticaria, was one of the initiatives that brought international experts together in Berlin to share scientific advances and improve the treatment of mast cell-related diseases.
During the two days of the forum, participants had the opportunity to attend scientific sessions, lectures and workshops, where the latest advances on the pathogenesis of urticaria, disease subtypes, biomarkers and the most effective treatments were discussed. In addition, special attention was given to recurrent angioedema and its different subtypes, a condition that affects many patients with chronic urticaria. The scientific discussions allowed researchers and clinicians from around the world to exchange ideas on the challenges and advances in the management of these diseases.
One of the main achievements presented by Dr. Ivan Cherrez was an innovative algorithm for early diagnosis of patients with chronic urticaria who also suffer from sleep disorders and mental problems. This comprehensive approach, developed from Ecuador, aims to improve patients' quality of life by addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of the disease. The research is part of a broader effort to define new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic urticaria globally.
In an analysis of global scope, infodemiological results were presented that reveal public interest in urticaria from a worldwide perspective. In addition, the first findings identifying sleep disorders as the main predictors of poor disease control and poor quality of life in patients with urticaria were shared. These findings, unique internationally, set a significant precedent and position Dr. Cherrez as a global reference in this topic.

Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES), began its academic activities in 1994 as a private, self-financed, non-profit institution. Its spirit of commitment and constant innovation are present in the quality of the service it offers to its community.
