Espiritu Santo University consolidated its leadership in scientific research by having four of its researchers included in the latest edition of the Stanford-Elsevier 2025 ranking, which recognizes the 2% most influential scientists on the planet. Of the 30 Ecuadorian researchers distinguished in this edition, four belong to UEES, positioning the institution as the Ecuadorian university with the highest representation in this prestigious international list. This ranking, prepared by Stanford University and published by Elsevier, uses standardized indicators of scientific production and impact, including number of publications, citations, H-index and relevance in the fields of study.
The researchers recognized are Oscar Del Brutto, Ecuador's first researcher in Neurology and Neurosurgery, with a trajectory of international reference in clinical and tropical medicine; Manuel Zambrano, national leader in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Economics, with key contributions in sustainability and ecological economics; José Francisco López-Gil, a Spanish researcher attached to the UEES, noted for his innovative contributions in Nutrition, Sports Sciences, public health and lifestyle medicine; and Peter Chedraui, a reference in Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine, whose research has generated high impact in maternal and reproductive health. Each of them leads their disciplinary field at the national level and has achieved international projection with research that addresses health and sustainability issues of global scope.
This international recognition confirms UEES as a leading institution in scientific research and as an engine of knowledge generation from Ecuador to the world. The presence of these four researchers in the Stanford-Elsevier ranking not only represents an individual achievement, but reflects the institutional commitment to academic excellence, investment in human talent and the development of high impact research. This milestone positions UEES as a regional reference in the production of scientific knowledge that contributes to solving global challenges from a local perspective, demonstrating that Ecuadorian science has the capacity to compete and stand out on the world stage.
