Description

The Biodiversity and Genetic Resources Engineering program offers a new professional profile in natural sciences, such as the study of BIODIVERSITY in all its dimensions, from genes to ecosystems. It is a career that trains professionals specialized in the quantification, valuation and conservation strategies necessary in countries with economies that depend substantially on natural resources, as is the case in Ecuador, where biodiversity is closely linked to the sustainable use of resources, social and economic development.

Assist in the technical management of projects for the solution of biodiversity and genetic resources problems.

Categorize and design conservation programs for biodiversity threatened with extinction, in order to design conservation strategies.

Identify and manage threats to native biodiversity and provide baseline information that will allow Ecuador to adapt to climate change.

Conduct ecological inventories, valuation and identification of biodiversity services to design and follow up on integrated development projects.

To take advantage of biodiversity knowledge for the generation of natural products supported by biotechnology.

  • Environmental departments in provincial governments, production and service companies (public and private).

  • Research groups for the generation of knowledge and sustainable management of biological diversity; in natural protected areas, research centers and private enterprises for the sustainable use of species, botanical gardens, herbaria, germplasm banks and zoos.
