UEES - Espiritu Santo University > Engineering > UEES students participate in event on the importance of wetlands organized by MAATE

UEES Environmental Engineering students took an active part in the event “The Importance of Wetlands”, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE), in collaboration with the Santa Elena Puntilla Coastal Marine Fauna Production Reserve (REMACOPSE).

Under the theme «Protecting wetlands for our common future», promoted by the Ramsar Convention, the day highlighted the vital importance of these ecosystems for biodiversity and human well-being. Wetlands, such as mangroves, marshes, lakes and estuaries, are fundamental for the provision of food, essential ecosystem services, and economic activities such as fisheries and tourism. The event provided an interactive space where participants could learn more about the conservation and sustainable use of these natural resources.

Initiatives like this are crucial to raise awareness of the urgent need to protect wetlands. These ecosystems are not only part of the natural heritage, but also play a key role in building a sustainable future.
