Students from the Faculty of Engineering of UEES participated in the XIII Latin American Congress of Botany, held March 10-14, 2025 in Havana, Cuba, presenting the results of four innovative research projects on the native and non-native flora of Ecuador. The studies addressed key issues such as the flora of the Tungurahua volcano, the genus Kalanchoe in Ecuador, the invasion of species of Thunbergia and an exhaustive catalog of non-native flora in the country.
Two of these projects were developed by students Ana Reyes and Isabela Vieira under the concept of «seed projects», an approach that encourages critical reflection and systemic analysis, always under the guidance of university research professors.
The research results presented are the result of a joint effort between students and UEES faculty, such as researcher Ileana Herrera and research associate Jordi López Pujol, who provided their expertise in research on Ecuadorian flora. In addition, students Isabela Vieira and Anahí Vargas had the opportunity to share their findings in oral presentations with academics and experts from all over Latin America, contributing to the visibility and recognition of the university in the regional scientific community.
This congress, organized by the Latin American Botanical Association, not only served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and the creation of scientific networks, but also as a space to strengthen collaborations between botanical institutions and professionals. The participation of UEES reflects its commitment to the development of science and the comprehensive training of its students, who continue to contribute to botanical research for the benefit of the region and the environment.

Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES), began its academic activities in 1994 as a private, self-financed, non-profit institution. Its spirit of commitment and constant innovation are present in the quality of the service it offers to its community.
