From February 10 to 14, 2025, Javier Changoluisa, Director of the PhD in Management and UEES researcher, participated in the renowned Australasian Consortium for Entrepreneurship Research Excellence (ACERE) conference, held at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. This international event brings together academics, researchers and experts in entrepreneurship, innovation and business development, to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge on the latest advances in these fields.
During his presentation, Changoluisa presented his study entitled “Entrepreneurship as a conduit for foreign investment to improve the productivity of local firms: evidence from a developing country.”. In his presentation, he highlighted how new companies can channel indirect benefits from foreign direct investment (FDI) to the economic growth of emerging countries such as Ecuador. According to the researcher, new companies incorporated with foreign investment capital are able to compete with companies already established in the market, generating economic benefits at an aggregate level.
New companies that manage to attract foreign investment at the time of their incorporation are able to compete with established companies, generating indirect benefits for economic growth.
The analysis presented by Changoluisa highlighted the spillover effects of venture-driven FDI, including the competition that new companies manage to impose on established ones. In addition, the researcher proposed various strategies to maximize the impact of foreign investment, such as incentives for investors and the promotion of strategic alliances between startups and foreign companies.
ACERE is recognized for its contribution to the promotion of entrepreneurship research, influencing both public policy and the training of new entrepreneurs. With its focus on developed and emerging economies, the conference creates opportunities for the exchange of ideas and collaboration between academics and entrepreneurs, helping to identify effective strategies to promote entrepreneurial growth around the world.
