Corruption spreads easily in systems with weak democracies, lacking institutionalism, values, civic values, ethics, duties of voluntary compliance with rules (legal and of citizen coexistence), of citizenship, where there is a feeling of impunity, where distrust in the system and in the other person stands out. 

Who are we?

The Culture of Legality: Civic Education and Peace Dialogues is an interdisciplinary academic space, aimed at training professionals of integrity, committed to the construction of a social environment where ethics, respect, empathy and the common good prevail.

Objectives of the Chair

General

Promote a culture of respect, voluntary compliance with the law, based on ethical, democratic and justice principles, which contributes to the formation of a conscious, responsible and committed citizenship with the reconstruction of the social fabric to build time and spaces for peace.

Specific:

● To encourage the study and critical reflection on the foundations of legality, the rule of law, democracy, justice and human rights.
● Develop competencies in students to act as agents of change in their professional and social environments.
● Generate spaces for dialogue and collaboration between academia, public institutions and civil society to address problems related to legality.

Academic contribution

The construction of a culture of legality to provide citizenship education and establish peace dialogues, focus on several initiatives that are developed on and off campus, as well as curricular insertions that are established in all faculties, both undergraduate and graduate from its Pedagogical Model.

Interdisciplinary Committee

The Culture of Legality: Civic Education and Peace Dialogues was created to foster a culture of respect, social harmony and responsible citizenship.

It is based on the founding principles of UEES, and under the internal institutional regulations for its execution. In the year 2024, the interdisciplinary Committee for the Culture of Legality was formalized and created: Rector, Academic Vice Rector, Deans of the Faculties of Humanities, Law, Communication, Student and Professional Management, the director of the Graduate School of Law, the academic director of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and the Director of Institutional Security.

Humanistic Approach

UEES promotes humanistic values that foster respect, empathy and cooperation among all members of the educational community. This is fundamental for the construction of a culture of peace.

Continuing Education and Training

The university offers continuing education and training programs that include workshops and seminars on conflict resolution, mediation and peace promotion.

Legal Support

The UEES has a Legal Clinic that provides support to low-income people in the resolution of conflicts and the promotion of an environment of peace and harmony.

Environmental Commitment

National and International Events

UEES students and teachers participate in national and international events and festivals, where issues of peace, civics, security, human rights and sustainable development are discussed, enriching their global perspective and their commitment to civic action and peace.
