Anahi Vargas, a graduate of Espiritu Santo University, was selected as the beneficiary of the ANID 2025 National Doctorate Scholarship, D. program, one of the most competitive programs of the Chilean government for fourth level studies. Thanks to an academic profile that combines excellence in undergraduate studies, work experience, scientific publications and a solid research projection, he will pursue a fully funded PhD in Sciences with a major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Chile.
One of the decisive elements in their selection was their extracurricular participation in the UEES Biodiversity Laboratory, directed by professor and researcher Ileana Herrera. Since the early years of her career, Anahí was involved in scientific projects that allowed her to acquire key skills in the design and execution of research. “Participating in research at the university gave me tools that today make a difference in my professional growth,” she said.
The teacher Ileana Herrera highlighted the student's commitment and results: “With the support of our research team, Anahí was able to publish as first author her degree work in a Q1 journal indexed in the Web of Science (WOS) database, which assured her a high score in the evaluation of research experience”.”.
This achievement reflects the impact of the work driven by the UEES Research Center, which promotes spaces for students and teachers to collaborate in projects of scientific relevance, both locally and internationally. These experiences not only strengthen the academic profile of the participants, but also open concrete opportunities to access scholarships, collaboration networks and graduate programs abroad.
Cases like that of Anahí Vargas show how getting involved in research beyond the classroom can become a platform for professional and academic growth. In addition, they position UEES as an institution committed to training researchers capable of generating knowledge with global impact and actively contributing to the development of the country.

Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES), began its academic activities in 1994 as a private, self-financed, non-profit institution. Its spirit of commitment and constant innovation are present in the quality of the service it offers to its community.
