The World Urban Forum is the most important global conference on sustainable urbanization.
Daniela Hidalgo, researcher at Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) and Director of Quality and Accreditations, represented the institution at the Twelfth Session of the World Urban Forum, WUF12, convened by the United Nations United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), which was held in Cairo, Egypt.
The academic participated as Senior Mentor at the training session and workshop organized by the Public Space Academy and UN-HABITAT, Ove Arup Foundation, German University in Cairo, where a case study in the city of Cairo was analyzed, together with members of the academic network City Space Architecture, of which it is part of the Advisory Board.
In addition, he shared research results on the improvement of public space with participatory methods in vulnerable sectors of the city of Guayaquil. This research is carried out in conjunction with his team, composed of UEES research associates and professors of Architecture Isabel Escobar and Alicia Alava, along with research assistants Karen Bohorquez, student, and Sofia Avila, alumni of the Faculty of Architecture of UEES.
The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to analyze one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002 and has since been held in different parts of the world.
“Participating in the World Urban Forum allows us to contribute to the construction of more inclusive and sustainable cities, sharing our research and learning from global experiences to generate a real impact in our communities,” highlighted Hidalgo.
The event was co-organized by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, including representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, businessmen, community leaders, urban planners and civil society representatives.
