Description

During the first years of the career, it focuses on the acquisition of knowledge about the anatomical-functional and molecular organization of the human body, its physiology and pathophysiological processes. After that, it focuses on the recognition of the signs and symptoms of the human body in the presence of nosological entities and the corresponding medical intervention.

Curricular experiences of the career

1st and 2nd semester

  • Recognition of the human body in cadavers, simulators, anatomage.
  • Learning about cells, tissues of the human body through the microscope.
  • Practice of biological samples for analysis and validation of results.

3rd and 4th semester

  • Recognition of microorganisms and bacteria through the microscope.
  • Beginning of community outreach activities in rural areas of the canton and marginal urban areas of the city. This activity is permanent throughout the career.

5th and 6th semester

  • Beginning of practical activities in hospitals at national and international level. - This activity is permanent throughout the career.
  • Recreation of real and hypothetical scenarios in the Simuees simulation clinic that allows the student to acquire skills and abilities.

7th and 8th semester

  • Active participation and exhibitions at the Simulation Open House, university and faculty.
  • Congresses, seminars, conferences and academic scientific events supported and sponsored by UEES.

9th and 10th semester

  • Observation in national and international hospitals.
  • Active practices in hospitals.
  • Simultaneous translation English-Spanish-English at International Medical Conferences endorsed by UEES.
  • Linkage with the community in health centers of the first level of care of the MSP and/or Day Hospitals of the Municipality of Guayaquil.

Medical Internship (1 year duration)

24-hour on-call and 8-hour assistantships as part of the internship. There are five rotations:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics
  • Pediatrics
  • Community Health

Each of the rotations lasts 10 weeks.

Rotations are part of the pre-professional practices that allow the acquisition of skills and abilities in the practice of the profession.

They can be performed abroad, during the same time and period as the internship rotations, except for Community Health.
