The School of International Studies of the Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) organized the twelfth edition of the Persuasive Speech Contest<\/em><\/strong>, The contest is an inter-school contest that seeks to motivate high school students to practice and perfect their English speaking skills. In this edition, 23 schools from the province participated, demonstrating a high level of competence, preparation and command of the language.<\/p>\n \u201cThe goal is for students to feel confident in public speaking, to master English and, above all, to stay informed about current issues,\u201d he said. Angelike Paez<\/strong>, Dean of International Studies at UEES.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Prior to the competition, participants prepared at their schools by selecting a list of topics of global interest. In the first round, one of the two topics that each student had worked on in advance was drawn, and those who advanced to the final had to present their second topic.<\/p>\n \u201cThe level observed was exceptional, both in the command of the language and in the depth of the arguments. It is important to recognize the effort of each school to prepare their best representatives and encourage these skills among young people,\u201d said Paez.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The winners of this edition were:<\/p>\n First place:<\/strong> Colegio La Moderna, with Daniel Mieles<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Second place:<\/strong> Mount Tabor Nazareth College, with Paula von Campe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Third place:<\/strong> IPAC College, with Katrina Brito<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/p>\n \u201cI feel very proud to have won after all the preparation I had. My first topic was whether the government should prioritize national security over the human rights of individuals accused of organized crime. Developing skills such as persuasion is very important,\u201d he said.
